We SUPPORT Amendment B: Repeal Property Tax Assessment Rates/Gallagher Amendment
This ballot initiative corrects a formula in Colorado’s constitution that currently determines how residential property taxes are assessed, which has resulted in detrimental decreases in funding for our local community services, including our schools. Our schools must have the resources required to help every child get the nutritious food needed to thrive and reach their full potential. Without Amendment B, the funding for our schools and other vital services will continue to face budget shortfalls and more Colorado children will face hunger. Learn more here.
We OPPOSE Proposition 116
If passed, Proposition 116 will reduce Colorado’s tax revenue and decrease Colorado’s budget by millions of dollars beyond the current expected shortfalls. The proposal will hurt Coloradans in need by reducing access to food, education, childcare and affordable housing. With the incredible growth of poverty and hunger due to the impacts of COVID-19, we need our state to significantly expand initiatives to reduce hunger, not be forced to cut back because of revenue deficits. Hunger Free Colorado works with Colorado leaders on policies to help end hunger in our state. To make progress in the fight against hunger, it is vital for Colorado’s laws and budget to support efforts to decrease hunger.
